Like most people, I've discovered, don't want to die. Apparently suicide never or rarely crosses their mind, and I just don't get it. Like even if I hadn't had a shit life, I'd still want to ctb, just because of the whole concept of life I just can't deal with. You just are born, without your consent, and then are expected to grow up, learn in an oppressive school environment, get a job, and just do the same shit day after day after day after day, until you get old and your body falls apart. And people are just ok with that?!

The positives outweigh the negatives to them I guess, once they breed it changes everything then they live for their children. A nice holiday every now and then, nights out etc fill the time and are worth it compared to the job they do something I have never been able to work out…

I just think it is the way their brain is wired, they are programmed to live, some people are just not meant for this world. I've never enjoyed life at all, even when I had less problems I just thought it was so boring and pointless.

Don't be so sure you'd still want to ctb if you hadn't had a shit life... People who don't suffer too much don't feel the need to think about the big picture. Pain is the mother of philosophy.

Amazing right?
They just... do what they have to do and then go to sleep. I find having a normal life boring but damn, I'm certainly surprised about the way everything looks easy to do for them.

Every single thing I do, is 5 times harder to do at least for me lol.

Also, I think a lot about death, not just ctb but death in general! I'm obsessed with it and I can't believe we're all gonna die!

Some of the most insightful things I've ever read about the human mind, the human condition, human society and humanity by and large were found on websites for suicidal people.
As opposed to many philosophers, who publish their work to make money and want to preserve their reputation, suicidal people have few things, if at all, which hold them back.

I think the key is having something and/or someone to live for. Most "normal"(/pro-life/non-suicidal) people have plenty of things in their life going for them. Speaking as someone who was mostly (ignoring the pro-life thing) in that camp a year ago, I can look back and see all those things that made my life worth living. Now I just sort of exist, with no real direction or meaning. For me, the desire to CTB comes from knowing I'll never again have what I did, that my life has already peaked, and now I'm just on the slow road to oblivion. Why live to just exist?

You know very well that I was referring to philosophy as (the love of) wisdom, not as the sterile academic discipline it's become

I think we have stockholm syndrome with life. Our biological instincts keep us captive and prevent us from escaping to freedom. That is why we subconsciously and willfully create anchors like starting a family or buying a home. So the roots become harder to pull out.

Define wisdom
Define philosophy! :)) Let's have a pissing contest to find out who's better at playing Socrates! :))

That's because people who suffer a lot feel the need to think about the big picture, which is what I said in my first post.

Philosophy, according to you, is defined as the love of wisdom. So define wisdom.

Challenge accepted. The loser has to get down and lick the balls of the winner.

You have failed to define wisdom, thus your initial argument is invalid.

Now you must get down and lick my balls.
Why didn't you just ask me to do that right away? I never say no to ball licking. :))
What was my invalid initial argument?

Here, knock yourself out -

Sorry, edited my post too late ;)

On a more serious note you are so right about pain breeding philosophy (as in conceiving, not fucking ;) ). It's a coping mechanism I used as a wee lad and it did fuck all to solve my actual issues of course.

It's just going up into the heavens when the real issues are down on earth.

I have been suicidal, and I have been nonsuicidal. Nonsuicidal is better. Much better.
If your life is fairly good and you want to ctb there's something wrong with you.
I want to ctb. It sucks!

Some are just too busy living their lives. They works towards a goal and that is all they think about outside of men/women. They dont ruminate like some of us do. Good for them i guess

Because they have people who like them. Or they're antisocial and don't care if anyone likes them or not.

I dunno, if I won the life lottery and was rich and good looking with at least half decent friends and family I would probably still want to live

It's weird how things like that change. I guess I'm in the minority here, but I don't hate life and I haven't been suicidal for very long, considering. Just a few years. I can remember just living and being okay with that. Killing myself never really crossed my mind in a serious way, but it's more like it wasn't even a thing. The option didn't exist at all, and it wasn't like I was thinking oh I could kill myself but I choose not to... It's just it was never there to begin with.

I can remember a couple of times throughout my life where I got situationally depressed and it still never really popped up as an option. Except for a couple of times as a panic response, but I remember dismissing it right away and feeling it was irrational.

But now it's relentlessly on my mind. I'm bombarded with thoughts and plans about it 24/7. Usually it feels like the only thing that exists and the only option. It feels logical. I don't understand it at all.

But it's weird... when my lithium works properly, suicide goes away again completely. I just suddenly realize one day that even though I'm depressed, I'm just living and the thoughts of killing myself are gone. I can't get that to stick though. We keep having to mess with my dose, which kind of screws with that and things go back to bad.
