Good excuses to get my shift covered

There's a great opportunity coming up where I can hang myself and not worry about any interventions as no one will be at home. Only problem is I'll be scheduled for work around this time. I will be asking for coverage ASAP and am wondering what a good excuse would be. I can't use illness (they'll probably want a doctors note anyway) and I work by myself so I think it's only considerate to ask in advance.

Don't you give the doctor's note once you return to work? They don't expect to show proof right at the moment.
So you can still call in sick, but say that you'll be going to the doctors. Either way, you'd have CTB'd already.
