Wow, this is on tonight C4 at 19.30 will be available to stream if you miss it, interesting how betting companies target professional footballers to advertise and entice them with free bets hoping to get them hooked, bastards.

In 2017, a 25-year-old engineer from Sheffield called Chris Bruney went on a non-stop betting binge, compulsively tapping at his mobile. When he finally stopped after five days, he had lost £120,000. Appalled at his recklessness, driven with shame and despair, he took his own life. Four years on, filming a Channel 4 documentary, Ruth Davidson spent time with his family and came away convinced something needs to be done to prevent others being sucked in, as he was, into the darker recesses of online gambling. They told them he had committed suicide and still after 4 years they are still trying to entice him with free bets.

They say a gambler dies from their addiction by suicide every day in the UK.

Football is meant to be enjoyed not to be a reason to ctb.

gambling addiction will be one of the reasons I CTB. If I hadn't gambled it away my life would have been quite good

I was a terrible gambler from the age of 12 until 16 I spent all my money on fruit machines but lucky enough, I said enough is enough and stopped but there is big money everywhere now even in Bingo halls the machines are on the tables and the women are hooked on them but now with lockdown and online gambling being so popular there are so many problems people CTB or go to prison as they are normal people who start robbing and embezzling to pay for it.

Gambling addiction is no joke. Some people have this view that it's all the gambler's fault and their ''''free choice''''. However, that's just wrong. I do not suffer from gambling addiction and for that I simply count myself lucky.

But I've seen a fraction of how much havoc it can wreak. I've a cousin who lost about 40k, and I know someone else who has been homeless and will soon be again, who is nonetheless still gambling due to their addiction. If anyone is familiar with kpop, there was also a story about a kpop manager who stole about $800k from one of the idols he was managing, to feed his gambling addiction. It may be harder to have sympathy in that case because he stole from someone else, however that doesn't change the fact that gambling addiction is what led to that disaster. Addictions of all kinds are terrible afflictions, and that of gambling is especially dangerous.

Online gambling is soooo easy to get hooked, bookmakers offering £50.00 free bets when the big races approach and casino's and bingo offering £100's for your first deposit, I worked with an accountant and he won £28,000 on an online fruit machine I said you must have a problem as he was always on it and he swore he only goes on it now and again but he traveled from Manchester and stayed in London on his own for 5 nights he seemed to be straight he said I was bored and was gambling and lost £1000 but some days he would say I lost £300 and then he would win a £1000, he said his wife checks the bank account so if I have a heavy loss, she has a pop at me but I couldn't do it. He is a contractor so he was on a lot of money from work but that's when you risk more and it's the habit that gets you in the end.

I used to bet online (sports and roulette) and was about to become an addict!
I just thought I could make lots of money and feel less depressed that way lol. Really a fool!

The casinos were my thing for a while. But really I just liked them for my main vice - booze - and how I could get it all night long. The gambling was seductive though. Some next mornings I'd wake up to my wallet being fat from so many £20 notes and they were the best hangovers ever. Most next mornings, however, the wallet was most definitely empty...

Definitely gonna watch this doc.

I was in the hospital where a guy came in who drank bleach as his attempt, and the general way in which he recounted it sounded very painful, it's hard to remember exactly what he outlined though, with all the medication they were shoving down our throats.

I've never been enticed by gambling so i consider myself lucky to not be controlled by that addiction, it definitely seems like no joke. Something that can destroy peoples lives.

That said, i've just started getting into the stock exchange (only small investment amounts) but it's arguably the same thing but carries this false sense of professionalism. I should probably start watching my investment habits.

Tbh I was disappointed by the doc. Presented by that irritating Scottish Tory MP woman, she failed to even consider the psychological and sociological aspects of addiction and just blamed everything on adverts.

Exactly. There is always something behind addiction. Otherwise everyone would be addicted by now. See that rat experiment where the rats in cages with lots of other rats and toys didn't get addicted to the heroin water whilst the rats alone in a small cage did. There's a theory that trauma especially in childhood increases the risk.

I've been addicted to the Internet since I was bullied badly by childhood friends and teachers when I was around 7 or 8. I never really realised till now, 20 years later and on the brink of suicide, because I never gave the memories much thought. They were too difficult to think about.
