I have agoraphobia and haven't been to a hotel since I was a little kid. So I have no idea how this works. I was looking at local hotels and they aren't cheep. It looks like my whole suicide bill will be close to $500.

So this may be kinda evil. But I was thinking if I'm dead then I can't pay when I check out. My guess is you pay up front though. It's a shame we have instant tech now, because if it was 20 years ago I'd just drain my bank account give the money to my GF and pass them a bounced check. I suppose they could go after my estate, but jokes on them. I'm poor! All money was withdrawn in cash.

I'm probably gonna pay as I don't want to be a jerk to the hotel, I'm using an exit bag so there will be no mess or anything. This is just something that crossed my mind.

lol for those rates, you bet ya! In all do seriousness it's a rotten situation, I'd rather not inconvenience anyone with my passing. But I figure a stranger dying in a hotel is better then me dying at home. And Ideally the hotel staff won't have to deal with anything. Police will take the body and probably the equipment.

In the UK whilst we pay on leaving (in case of extra charges for 'phone, drinks from the fridge etc) they sometimes ask for a credit or bank card on check in just to have some comeback if a guest has an accident, sudden illness or other incapacitating event.(Guess ctb would be the ultimate "final event").

Usually the hotel gets an imprint of your credit card up front, even if you prepay the room, in case you have incidental charges (like bill a meal to your room)

Try not to do that. You are already leaving them your dead body and the hassle that comes with it. It's a decomposing corpse no matter the method, it's gonna be a messy situation.

Yeah, like I said I don't want to be a jerk. This was just a morbid thought I had, and I was curious.

That's good price, I just wouldn't want to do it in someones house. I can afford the hotel, and it's not like I'll need the money. I'm just an eternal cheapskate lol

This is the same in the US. You don't pay up front but they ask for a card to keep on file in case you try to "skip out" or do extra damage or something.

I'm in the UK and can't remember the last time I stayed in a hotel without either paying in advance or on arrival...

ב''ה,

This is getting more rare in USA though it depends on the area. Large chains, maybe it's not settled until checkout or a certain day of the stay, while budget ones it's pretty much just a purchase now.

I'm doing mine in a motel that was on airbnb. So its possible to find something like that, I am not sure if you will find anything like that where you are located.

not really adding anything new but usually, they'll preauthorize a charge on your card but they won't post it. I've heard Choice Hotels are different and take it up front so YMMV.

i'm not familiar with airbnb, but i was considering that aswell. is there an option on the site to filter for places that are run by private people/ small businesses?

I think they usually take your card details at the start. I don't use hotels much either. Once when I did, the whole experience was kind of weird. Seeing as they'd taken my card details at the start, I'd assumed I'd already paid. It was a very busy, stressful period for me at the time so, I hadn't kept track of whether the money had actually been taken. They asked for my card when I checked out. I got all paranoid they were going to charge me twice so, I hesitated. To which- the manager said- we've got your card details anyway. We'll just charge you from that. So- I suspect they might try to take the money.

Personally, yeah- I really think you should pay if you can though. Maybe they're insured for it but regardless, it's likely to put that room out of action for a while anyway. I don't know how badly suicides damage the reputation of a company either. Whether it puts people off staying- especially in that room. Still ultimately, if we could die in clinics, I expect we would.

Yeah, things would be so much better if you could just call up and make an appointment at a suicide clinic. Where you could go with you loved ones and put down like a pet.
