Do you find the news or politics upsetting or stressful? Do their manipulated statistics with poor methodology make you mad? Do you feel it affects your mental health?

Stop watching the news. Block news sources on your social media.

It is just that simple. Like all addictions it's far easier said than done. I used to be sucked into that garbage myself like so many of here seem to be.

Like all addictions (that's what this is) most addicts will have stated reasoning why they shouldn't give up their addiction and continue at their mental health expense.

Life is so much better when you stop allowing others expose you to so much toxicity.

Now that doesn't mean one needs to stop caring about things. But to learn to recognize immature/toxic engagement vs mature.

Here is a short video about how disagreements are maturely handled.

I hate what is happening to my country. I'm very political and I get fucking angry

But I won't stop I need to know what happens rather than be blind to it

It blocks out toxicity yes, but when it comes to the news and current discussions, I am part of the demographic of these ongoing "debates" and arguments. I'd like to know what could be going on or what I can expect to face as a woman who uses services related to birth control and medication some transgender people use. Shutting everything out just makes me blind, not being able to see the wall I'm running at doesn't make the wall further away.

honestly it depends. since you say stressful and sad i'm assuming you mean tragedies and bad news, i don't, i feel more normal when i see other people also suffer. i hate seeing good news though. news about people getting nice things and reaching their goals, because i know i'll never feel that

I said mad, not sad. Sad totally applies also.

Yes, I do find them upsetting, in many cases they are just what I wouldn't hear about, something that certainly I could live without, especially the negative things happening the world, disasters, wars, depressing statistic. I find it too unlikable how often human value is just reduced to numbers, just statistic, something insignificant..

I feel it so upsetting and just do the bare minimum and try to focus on where I can help but also protect myself. I want to find local communities to be with but feel trapped. I live where I live to find work, but returning to my hometown means less likelihood of work and living with family and that would send me spiraling

I find some news stories triggering and they make me so anxious and panicky.
When you get into a routine of checking news sites it's so hard to stop. Dealing with the uncertainty of not reading the news is so hard.

No it's not entirely easy. Y'all are right on that. I'm sure there will be much disagreeance with what I'm about to say. Though for me the following does feel gentle. So maybe I'm wrong but....

Have ya ever heard anyone say that one way of dealing with your emotions is to attempt step back from yourself and become an observer of yourself? In the unusual times where I am in a relationship and struggling with a decision I like to do that by asking myself how I would advise a friend in the same position. That can be applied to world politics as well. Not that it's about being entirely ignorant. But reducing emotional investment. The less you put into a toxic system, the less you have to lose.
