CO build up time with gens

Hi,

I remember I have told in some threads the estimates of CO build up with gas powered portable generator. When I did my previous tests my meter heated up and tests were not ideally done so the CO level seemed to rose slowlier but still above 13000 ppm.

So I just want to say that CO builds up very fast in 3 square space with portable generator. I got 6500ppm in 3 square meter space in 2 min when the meters probe was in about 40cm away from the meter. I have professional CO meter.

Could you describe or give the model and brand of the generator?

Thanks for this post it is interesting, I have a small two stroke generator that I use to power some external lights, it runs for hours and is about 950 w. I hadn't considered this in a confined space.

When I last thought about CO I was looking at my classic car exhaust in the garage, no cat and twin carburettors, runs at around 2.5 % CO which I thought might have been quick enough.

I will try to get a measure on the generator exhaust should be pretty high, I still have an automotive gas analyser I can use, probably a bit out of calibration but it'll give me a rough idea.

New generators are supposed to all have a catalytic converter to remove carbon monoxide by the end of 2020 in the U.S. as I recall.

years ago, we went camping and i slept in my car with the back seats down. I was cold in the morning so put the engine on and nearly fukin gassed myself, i was really drowsy and realised in time(wasn't trying to CTB at that time)!!

I wanted to thank you for testing this method for us!

I'll be using the same method and I'll be doing it in my car.
I have a professional meter as well(TPI-707) and I'll place it on the passenger seat while my generator will be in my trunk.
The results you described above are amazing. 6,500PPM in 2 minutes...so in this case you'll have aproximately 13,000 PPM in about 4 minutes.

Did you notice any smoke in the confined space?
Did you measure the temperature by any chance?
How hot was it in the confined space?
I'll be using this in my car, so I was wondering if it could melt the interior body?

I haven't seen any news that said they would put gens in European made generators. There are no hurricanes here and at least in my country people die more from boat exhausts.

People can always ask from the seller and buy the one without it.
