Has anyone tried amino acids for bipolar? I used to go to a naturopathic clinic for Vitamin C IV's and I met patients there that were getting amino acid IV's to treat all kinds of addictions, including porn addiction. The therapy supposedly corrects brain chemistry. I have used some amino acids and herbs for depression and I have found them helpful. AAs can also help with insomnia.

I don't think you know the definition of pseudoscience. Amino acids are essential nutrients that have critical functions in the brain. Maybe they don't work for bipolar but calling them pseudoscience is a misnomer. Many drugs are based on natural substances from plants. Astrology, telekinesis, clairvoyance etc is pseudoscience.

What bipolar are you? 1 or 2 or non diagnosed? (Just curiosity). Im bipolar type 1 no psychosis and this is the main reason that put me on this hell that im living recently and also what brought me to this forum. But I have seen that its pretty much possible manage the disease and maybe through correct eating and foods get really better. I read about some cases with Keto Diet and a lot of improvement. Have you ever heard about that?

I'm not sure if you were asking me or the other user. I don't have bipolar. I have reactive depression...I'm depressed because I am always sick. Herbs and amino acids help a little but ultimately the only thing that will help me with depression is getting physically healthy. I thought I was showing early signs of schizophrenia several years ago but eating healthy and detoxing resolved it. My mind feels a lot more clear.

I think I got you but why did you mention bipolar? I assumed you were bipolar by the title

I just thought it might help someone. The article also talks about anxiety, depression, insomnia. I have used amino acids for anxiety and insomnia as well and they help.

I feel conflicted about those so called alternative treatments. On one hand, there's proof that they may help with mental disorders, even if they're just sugar pills or plain water, by the placebo effect. On the other hand, there are people who seek alternative treatments instead of proven treatments for physical diseases, and that can be extremely harmful or even lethal for them as placebo can't physically heal a person. I'd feel better about them if they were only allowed to be used to treat disorders that only exist inside a person's mind, such as chronic pain or addictions.

The doctor who wrote the article was recommending using amino acids in conjunction with meds.

That's better, I guess, but I don't really know if I can trust any articles by Psychology Today after I read one saying that ADHD is not a real disease. That disorder made my life a living hell and I hated to see a supposed specialist disregard my suffering and the suffering of other millions of people like that.

Were they saying it is a symptom of a disease rather than a disease itself? That's messed up if they were flat out saying it's not real. I know it is a symptom of Lyme disease. There may be other diseases that affect the brain that might cause it. I have Lyme and it has caused a lot of issues like OCD, ADD, brain fog etc.

I don't remember it very well as it has been a while since I read it and I never bothered to read it again, but the writer basically said that ADHD was created to sell stimulants and that inattention and hyperactivity are symptoms of modern society and caused by technology and stuff and that they are completely normal. I found it to be very offensive and a very black and white view on the matter. From personal experience I can say that ADHD is real and some people can't function without stimulants like ritalin.

I think technology contributes but there are probably a lot of factors. I imagine that publication has many authors with varying viewpoints. Any decent publication should anyway.

I checked the site, and apparently it is a consensus there that ADHD is an invention of big pharma and that the behavior described on people with that disorder is caused by trauma and technology. That is depressing to see, considering I never had any trauma and I used to be a very mentally active person which should have made my brain more healthy according to them. I, too, think that attention problems may be caused by excess of technology, but not cause them on their own.

I've found L-theanine and taurine useful in conjunction with tianeptine in improving my depression and fatigue

Glycine is also reputedly helpful for sleep.

Thrive, did you get bit by a tick in Arizona? Is that where you developed Lyme?
